Written charts

Blind and low-vision knitters get very frustrated with charts. Our screen readers don’t read them and it’s difficult to get them translated. There are lots of patterns with very simple charts that never get knitted just because they are in chart form.

We are very blessed to have people willing to translate the charts of free online patterns into written instructions for the benefit of visually impaired knitters. This page is a compilation of their efforts. Below is a pdf for each pattern. It contains only the text form of the chart or charts along with a link to the original pattern.

If you are interested in volunteering to translate charts, or if you are a visually impaired person who needs a specific chart in text form, please contact us (fingeringyarn@gmail.com).

If you use any of these charts, please take a moment to write a quick thank you in the comments section. The volunteers will be happy to know that all their hard work is appreciated.

I am so excited about this. I have a whole directory of charted patterns that I have purchased that I cannot read. What do I do to start getting them translated?

I am so pleased to find this site! I have low vision and would really appreciate it if you could work out the text directions for me for the Anchor and Heart Baby Blanket pattern worked over 147 stitches. Thank you in advance!
